We had our first family camping trip this Memorial Day at Cunningham Falls, Maryland. This was a fun experience that we think we are going to make a family tradition. From hiking to the falls to campfires at night to
the Bobby Crocker cook off, it was a weekend of fun.
The first night we were there, we had a good time around the camp fire with our friends from
the site over, Lisa, David and Julia. We played some cards and then turned in for the night. The next day we decided to try to hike to the falls. We were told it wasn't that hard and that they were beautiful so we took off only to find out we had to go down steep paths, climb rocks and traverse the land. It wasn't as easy as they said, especially when you can't see your feet because you are carrying a baby on your front or a 3 yr old on your shoulders. (Can you guess which I had?) It was a site to see though, the falls were beautiful! We cooked marshmallows over the fire that night and had a great day!
Sunday, we had the Bobby Crocker Cook off... which Peter took 2ond place in! He used tortilla, home grown strawberries, and dark chocolate in the pie iron. It was a fun ordeal and even better for me because I got to be one of the judges and sample all the pies! Brian Cole and his buddy were the winners with their pancake, marshmallow, chocolate and syrup pie. It was delicious. Peter and his dad made a pineapple cobbler in the dutch oven also and decided to make it a challenge for next year.
We also got to play some games with the boys and by ourselves. I never go anywhere without my cards so we taught Stephen to play go fish, played some cribbage, baseball, jump rope, and kick ball! It was a blast. Peter had a good time too, because he could hit the ball far and the kids thought it was great!
We had a blast and the boys did very well considering their ages. So well in fact that Peter has decided that we will venture out to camp maybe once a month! We are so excited for that!
